Vintage New Orleans & old Chicago style hot jazz. Baby & The Pearl Blowers is an all-star Portland band of premier musicians inspired by early American jazz. Lots of brass and plenty of hot swingin' boogie. Baby & The Pearl Blowers deliver American roots music that was born in the brothels, saloons, night clubs, and street corners of New Orleans & old Chicago.

Becky Kilgore and the Cowhands features James Mason on fiddle, with Doc Stein on steel guitar, and Pete Lampe on bass

Rebecca Kilgore

“Rebecca is simply one of the best interpreters of The Great American Songbook. She has a gorgeous voice and has a deep connection with every song she touches. In a world of pretenders, she's absolutely the real thing. I love what she does!” Michael Feinstein

Rebecca is one of America's leading song stylists who delights in interpreting the music of the Great American Songbook. Her clear voice, floating lyricism, and heartfelt joy in songs familiar and obscure has made her a favorite worldwide at jazz parties, festivals, concerts, and cruises.

She has appeared frequently on National Public Radio’s “Fresh Air” with Terry Gross, has sung on “A Prairie Home Companion,” and has appeared at Carnegie Hall with Michael Feinstein. For the past three years, she has been invited to perform at the Mabel Mercer Cabaret Convention in Lincoln Center and Town Hall. Rebecca has recorded more than thirty CDs, including collaborations with legendary pianist / composer Dave Frishberg, John and Bucky Pizzarelli, Harry Allen, John Sheridan, and her own quartet.

Whether singing tender ballads or jump tunes, Western Swing, Rodgers, Gershwin, Ellington, or Arlen, Rebecca’s approach is always light-hearted, honest, subtly swinging.

James Mason

“James is one of the most natural and musical of Jazz fiddle players”
Matt Glaser - Director of Berklee College of Music

At age 11 James entered his first fiddle contest and at age 13 began learning Texas Style fiddling from the legendary Benny Thomasson while keeping within earshot of Swing and Jazz... always inspired by Bob Wills, Stephane Grappelli, and Joe Venuti.
Throughout his career James has played and recorded Bluegrass, Country, Swing and Jazz and over the years has taught at a number of camps and workshops including the Ashokan Fiddle and Dance in New York.

James currently resides in the Portland area and is active in two Gypsy jazz bands, Swing Papillon and Everything’s Jake. Both of which feature the music of Django Reinhardt.
For thirty years James has been repairing, restoring, and making violin bows at the David Kerr Violin Shop in Portland, OR.

He has also toured with various bands while sailing the southern Caribbean . However his most unusual gig was in the Voice of Asia Festival in Kazakhstan, representing the USA in a swing trio. He is the owner of Pete's Bass Shop, specializing in the repair, restoration and sales of double basses, which affords him the opportunity to combine his love of music, "old basses" and fine woodworking.
Melissa Roane - (Set time: 6:00 PM)
Melissa Roane
Melissa, though too modest to admit it, is one of Portland’s most important figures in Vintage Style Swing Dances. She has been teaching at the Viscount Dance Studio since 2003 and has taught, deejayed, and performed at various events around town. Her approachability, knowledge, fun classes, and dance style have garnered her a solid following and place among the Portland’s great swing instructors.
