Sarah Barlow Does Country

Born in the hills of Malibu and raised in the hill-country of Texas, Sarah Barlow has climbed a few in her day.

She is proud to present her debut of original material showcasing her songwriting approach to country classics and played with a line-up of aces. Some of her greatest inspirations include country legends such as Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, Patsy Cline, and Gram Parsons. She has always been drawn to and inspired by Roy Orbison, 60’s girl groups, Traditional Mariachi music, the likes of Edith Piaf, Billie Holiday, Francoise Hardy, Stax and Sun Records and many of her favorite soul singers such as Irma Thomas, Carla Thomas, Barbara Lynn, and Tina Turner.

Growing up in Texas listening to her grandparents’ vinyls of blues and country albums sent Sarah into a whirl of lifelong material, later to come through in her best songwriting yet. She got her dose of Emmylou, Willie Nelson, Waylon, George Jones, Tammy Wynette among all of the other greats. She would sing jazz standards and dance in her room for hours, playing violin, acting out dramas and skits, and fantasizing about becoming a famous star one day, as she felt it was imminent. In her teens, Sarah frequented the Texas legendary dancehall, the Broken Spoke and would get up to sing “Crazy” sometimes with the great fiddle player Alvin Crow. She was mentored at the young age of 17 by the beloved Clifford Antone of world famous blues club, Antone's in Austin, TX. She started a blues jam of her own, and would hang with the likes of local celebrity at the time, Gary Clark Jr. and “so and so” backstage. Sarah is proud to have performed with the Antone’s house band and once with the great boogie-woogie blues piano legend, Pinetop Perkins. She has also sang in Spanish and played violin in a Mariachi group in Austin for a time. After traveling all over, Sarah is kicking off her boots in the Pacific Northwest for a while. While she soaks away those winter blues in the bath, awaiting the “jet-setter lifestyle” that she hopes to obtain for herself one day, she is constantly working hard on writing new exciting material to perform. Try and keep up if you can!
