Kris Deelane and the Hurt - (Set time: 6:00 PM)
Kris Deelane and the Hurt
Raised in suburban Los Angeles during the punk rock era and subsequent musical revolution of the late 70's/early80's, Kris' early influences were diverse - from The Beatles and Neil Young to X, The Dead Kennedy's, and The Plasmatics (Wendy O. Williams was a favorite). The sense of righteous defiance coupled with a tragic flair resonated in her, and continues to inform her music, art, and style.

Kris started her music career in college as keyboardist and singer in an Andrews Sisters-meets-B52's group called "Alice, I Wonder." In 1990 she toured to the Soviet Union in a production of "Fiddler on the Roof." When she got back to LA, she got behind the drums for the first time in the band "Slaughterhouse 5" and played bass in the ska band "Timeboy." Kris went on to sharpen her songwriting and guitar skills on many tours with the nationally acclaimed acoustic duo "Adam + Kris." She took a break from the duo in 2000 to play guitar and percussion on tour with "The Toyes", including the legendary Fully Fullwood, Rock Deadrick, and Jawge Hughes. In Portland, Adam + Kris expanded to a full rock band, SweetJuice. Kris, a lead singer and songwriter for SweetJuice, also played guitar, bass AND drums for that band. Of course, not all at the same time.
In addition to solo shows, Kris plays in her big 10-piece Motown/Stax/ Soul band "Kris Deelane and the Hurt." Featuring some of Portland's finest musicians accompanying her on big band tributes of all your well known favorites, plus many of her originals recreated with a twist of motown style. You won't be able to stop dancing.
